Instagram, TikTok and YouTube always need a photo or video (YouTube, a video). Choosing a type that your connected platforms cannot take shows an error such as None of your connected platforms can take this kind of post.
1. Link posts
- Enter a full address starting with
http://orhttps://. Anything else shows Enter a full link starting with http:// or https://. - Threads and Facebook show a link preview card.
- X and LinkedIn get the link added to the end of your text. LinkedIn does not build a preview for posts made this way. On X a link always counts as 23 characters.
- Your text plus the link must fit each platform's limit (see What each platform supports).
2. Polls (X)
- The caption box becomes the poll question.
- 2 to 4 options, each up to 25 characters, all different.
- Poll length: 1 hour, 6 hours, 1 day, 3 days or 7 days.
- Polls are only available on X. Threads, Facebook and LinkedIn polls are not supported.
3. Stories
- Instagram Stories take a video up to 60 seconds. Facebook Story videos are best at 2 minutes or less.
- Both prefer 9:16 (for example 1080×1920); other shapes are cropped or letterboxed.
- Story posts have no caption, description or first comment.
- A Story cannot be a carousel. Error: Stories must be a single photo or video.
- The Story button is disabled until Instagram or Facebook is connected.
If you switch to a type a ticked platform cannot take, that platform is unticked for you. Switching from Feed post to Story unticks every platform except Instagram and Facebook.
